J Dear Mother: Your card received
last night and also your letter a few
days ago. I can't understand why you
didn't get my last letter which was
-written over a week ago.
f No, I haven't been sick, in fact, I
am feeling fine. Don't worry abofit
me for if I should get very sick you
will be notified. That was sure a dandy
letter you wrote me. It sure takes
the blueness out of a fellow and gives,
him the right spirit to know ha1 has a
dear mother and folks and a home to
fight for.
I guess I told you in my other let
ter that I passed my first class ex
amination all 0. K. so you little sai
lor son is now a firstJclass man. It
will increae my pay two and half dol
ing a month. Every hit helps you
know.
I don't think I will get a furlough
for many things regarding the rules
and regulations of the navy have
changed since the war and they can't
let all the fellows go home , on a
month's furlough for they need the
training. The only way we can get
to come is in case some one in the
family is sick and then we are given a
leave of absence for a week or so. it
I get transferred to Bremerton though,
I might be able to come homo for a
day or so. .
Yes, I would like to go to Hono
lulu or Corveda in the Philippine Is
lands. About 25 left from the school
last Monday for the Philippine Islands.
They get three days liberty in Hono
lulu. Won't that be great and are
30 days en route.

dispensary and like it pretty good.

and also passed the first class exami
nation. A Are the fellows still there or
have they left? I hope they come
down here before I leave so I can run
out and see them. Alfred, sent me a
picture of the bunch. Gee, but it seems
good to gaze on their faces again.
How are Ha and Ad and Minnie?
Tell them hello for me. I would write
them a letter but I have so many to
write and nothing to write about sd

Ninety per cent of the hay in Walla Walla County,
In all probability, hiiB been sold to cattle and sheep men,
leaving a very small percentage to bo shipped out.
I . am extra fortunate in having about two thousand
tons of strictly number one leafy alfalfa hay to dispose of.
I can bcII the same within ten days to bo shipped away,
but much prefer to sec the sheep and cattle carried
through until spring, ns I realize that there will be a big
stock loss the coming fall and winter unless properly fed.
