Having the three in his . power, El Jaguar gives the man the right to tako one of the girls into safety, but the other must remain with him. The young American Js at a doss what to do; whether to leave his young sister to tho mercy of the bandit, or his bride of a few days. How the problem is solved is brought about in a most str.rtling and unusual manner. Needless to say a play of this unusual theme, with Ses suo Hayakawa as the bandit, abounds in gripping incidents. The major portion of the picture was filmed in the exact locality in which tho scenes of the story are laid, the Lasky Company having re ceived pel-mission from the Mexican commander who was at that time in charge to spend several days in the interior. SHEPHER (United Press Staff Correspondent) Petrograd, July 16. (By mail) A brave bank clerk has made himself the friend of War Minister Kerensky for life. ( Whpn tho mobs were carrvinfir off the revolution in Petrograd, the police stations were fired.. The crowds believine the fires to have been started by revolutionaries, joined in the fircmaking with heart and soul. No one seemed to realize thut tho records of the Black Hundred would be of more use in existence than in a state of ashes. Any at tempts of souvenir-seeking onlookers to seize any of the documents from the bonfires met with resistance from the crowds, who were urged on to this by the detectives and provocators. Kerensky's new friend was in a crowd around one of the great fires. Among a batch of books and papers which he saw dumped into the blaze was a dossier marked Kerensky. He seized this and, in spite of the efforts of the crowd to take it from him, he mndo a speech that persuaded them that the Kerensky record ought to be saved. Though Kerensky, ot that time, was famous, he was by no means the idol he has since become. Recently the bank clerk presented the dossier to Kerensky. Ia consisted of several hundred pages and showed that the secret police had been fol lowing him night and day for six months. I have just received u letter from L. W. Jeffers, Federal Grain Super visor, which reads in part as follows: "In connection with the federal sup ervision of grain inspection, as pro vided for in the United States Grain Standards Act, this office is desirous of enabling the farmers, warehouse men and grain dealers to become familnr with the provisions of the Act and the rules and regulations pro mulgated by the Secretary for its en forcement." "In order to ussist in this work, Mr. H. A. Martin, grain supervisee from this office, will spend the next ten days in Eastern Oregon, for the purpose of meeting and talking with the interested parties. Mr. Martin will be in Lu Grande Monday, Aug 27th, 'being able to spend the entire day and evening in your city.' Arrangements have been made to hold the meeting at the City Hall in La Grande at 8 p. m. This is the best opportunity for local farmers to learn as to the details of Federal Grain 'Inspection and ill should make it a special point to be present as well as all other parties that are in any way interested in the grain crops of the country.
