Stung . Severely C. F. Roberts, Chief Dispatcher of the O. W. R. & N. Co., got tangled up in a yellow jacket nest yesterday and got badly stung. He feels quite "swelled up" this morn ing. -' - Bible School in December to study for the ministry. He has been president of Grande Ronde Union No. 18 of the Christian Endeavor here, and will be greatly mussed. They have been lo cated here for the last two years.. '... Promoted to Corporal Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Sargent have received the news that Donald Sargent who joined Bat tery B Oregon Field Artillery, on July 24 had already been promoted to be a corporr.l. His many friends here will be glad to hear that he is making such rapid advancement. He is now at Clackamas Station and writes that many of the boys have been vaccinated and some of them are feeling just a little bit miserable. The boys have only to be vaccinated four times all together and they are looking forward to the day when they will be over the vaccination period. The boys of Bat tery B. are expecting to be moved soon to Palo Alto, Calif., as Camp Withycombe has been condemned and they are looking forward to the trip and to their new camp, which is said to be in a very beautiful and health ful surroundings. Injured in Sawmill While in Saw mill in the mountains near Five Points the other day, Will Shaw narrowly escaped losing his right hand. He was working on the cut-off saw and some Way or other the third finger of his left hand got eau;;ht in the saw splitting it tho whole length of tho finger. Dr. Ralstoiv dressed the fin ger, taking . about eight stitches in the cut, ahd although the bone was split clear through, the Doctor thinks he can still be able to save tho fin ger. . Mrs. Affie B. Hanna arrived home Inst week after a trip in Western Oregon. D. B. Mount, a prominent attorney of Baker, is in Joseph with his family visiting his brother. Dr. Albert Mount. Mrs. M. Evans left Sunday for a short stay in Union county. Clarence Carpenter, formerly of Joseph, arrived in Joseph Saturday for a brief visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carpenter. Clarence is at present located at Ft. Worden, near Seattle, but says he has orders to move in a short time. Marvin Shannafelt is again at his old post at the O.-W. R. & N. depot. On Friday Mrs. H. D. Akin left af ter a short stay in Joseph for her home in Alberta, Canada.
