Charges of murder were placed . against: j Thomas J. Mooney, former I. W. W. secretary and labor agitator; Mrs. t Rena Mooney, wife of Thomas Mooney a music teacher; Warren K. Billings, 1 member of the shoe cutters union; Ed ward Nolan, member of the machinists union and Israel Weinberg, jitney j driver. I Billings was convicted and sentenced ! to life in prison. I Mooney was tried next, found guilty and sentenced to be hanged. ' Mrs. Mooney was the third to go to .trial. Her case was taken up on May , 21. Developments which had fol lowed her husband's conviction focused ( new attention on the cases. ! F. E. Rigall of Grayville, 111., a few weeks before Mooney was to go to the gallows, charged F. C. Oxman, ; wealthy Oregon cattleman, with at tempting to persuade him to give false testimony against Mooney. Oxman's testimony had been vital in Mooney's conviction. The appellate court has boon asked to grant Mooney a new trial. During the weeks of Mrs. Mooncy's trial, few connected with either side escaped the thrusts, charges and counter charges of the attorneys and labor leaders. Ore SAN FRAN- MURDER CASE to protest against patriotism typified in the preparedness parade; that War ren Billings, Mooney and Mrs. Mooney were driven to Stuart and Market streets by Israel Weinberg in his jit ney bus and placed the suitcase con taining the infernal machine, on the side walk there. An alibi formed the defense. Two juries heard the evidence, one the official jury, the other a "labor jury." Twelve labor leaders had courtroom seats and followed the same instructions as the regular jurors They will return labor's verdict.
