J 4 4 4 4 4 fv'fr 4 4 The dance given by a number cf La Grande prominent young matrons and misses at the- Riverside park last night was well attended and quite a handsome sum was realized for the company fund of the La Grande hos pital unit. The members of tho latter were out in force and the occasion took on the aspect of a farewell event. Members of Company M were also present and as always the military were quite popular and added a picturesque element to the scene. The pavilion wa3 prettily decorated in the national color3. Tho young girls and matrons nlso prwer.led a pretty scene in their multi-colored summer gowns. The pavilion was cool and the air nV lightful, especially after a hot day. Refreshments were served daring the evening. The young women worked hard to make ihe affair a succeas and are naturally much gratified at the result should appeal to the country at large as worth encouraging. Miss Gavin is a member of the Senior class of the St. Vincent 'hospital in Portland. Mrs. Goss and Mrs. Rudolph ar rived last night from Portland, where Mrs. Goss has been visiting for some time. Mrs. Rudolph formerly of this city, now lives in Portland. She ex pects to return home tonight. Ensign Childers and Lieutenant Conrad have been called to other duties and are leaving La Grande. It is not known where they will be sent or what the nature of their work will be. As yet their places here have not been filled by -their superior officers in the Salvation Army.- .
