sia," Henry P. Davison, chairman of
the Red Cross War Council, announces
the dispatch to Russia of a special
Red Cross commission. The commis

trranhic and appealing mnnnor, and
must naturally be seen to be appre
ciated and enjoyed. The cast in-
which follows and the tense love
scenes which bring this unusual
drama to a powerful surprise climax,
William Russell does some of the best
work of his long and successful en
roar as an actor. He is supported by
a splendid cast, including ChnrloUc
Burton, Queenie Rosson, Ashton
Dearhold and Horry VonMoter.

National Council of Defense has re

it has accomplished through its State

Bread Saving Campaign.
Washington, D. C, July 9. (Spe
cial) The commercial economy board
of the Council of National Defense
authorizes the following:
July 10 is the day of the passing of
stale bread from commerce all over
America. On that day every baker
in America so telegrams and letters
to the commercial economy board in
dicate will make stale loaves non
returnable, prevent waste enough to
feed 200,000 persons, and release
scores of men now handling stale
loaves for work in other occupations.
And on that day, because loaves will
no longer be returnable, it will be
hoove housewives everywhere to be
gin to order their bread in advance
one loaf for Monday and two for Wed
nesday and four Saturday, and so on
xactly as they order milk.

woman's war battalion fully armed

Elks Give Joy Ride.
Spokane, Wash., July 9 (Special)

The Emergency Ration.
Washington, July 9. (Special)
Not the least important part of a
fighting man's equipment to be used
by the V. S. Marines on the firing
line, is the emergency ration. It wili
enable the son-soldier to stick to his
guns nnd keep up his physical
strength when cut off from the base
of supplies by the enemy barrage or
other causes.
Every Marine on expeditionary
duty is supplied with n half-pound tin
case containing a two days' supply of
food, consisting of chocolate and a
condensed meat nnd vegetable com
pound that may bo made into soup, or
eaten raw if there is no opportunity
to prepare it.
