ARCADE MARY PICK FORD AT ARCADE TONIGHT AND TOMORROW COAL HIAWATHA AND ROCK SPRING Now is the Time to Buy Coal for Stor age and Avoid Next Winter Shortage and Higher Prices. The J. D. Lynch Co. As an attraction extraordinary the Arcade theatre tonight and tomorrow, will present Mary Pickford in a new Artcraft picture, "A Romance of the Redwoods," staged under the personal direction of Cecil 'B. DeMille. A western subject of full-blooded, dramatic action, the new Pickford ve hicle presents "Little Mary" in a role that is entirely different from any thing in which she has ever appeared on the screen. The story was written ! by Mr. DeMille himself in collabora jtion with Jennie Macpherson and dis closes a wealtn 01 typical ficKiora in cidents of heart appeal. The settings are of the days of '49 during the time of the big gold rush. Mary Pickford, as Jenny Lawrence, a little New Eng land Miss, journeys to the west in search of her only relative, an uncle. Before she is aware of it, she falls in love and as a result, becomes en meshed in serious complications. Var ious clever twists to the story afford surprises that add greatly to the gen eral merit of tho picture. "A Romance of the Redwoods" links together the arts of two of the greatest notables in screenland, Mary Pickford and Cecil De Mille. The tal ents of either one used in connection with the production of a photoplay would mean a subject of unusual mer it. The combination of both repre sents the nffilation of the screen's best artists. Not only is Miss Pickford's wonderful charm included to advant age in her new picture but a dramatic finesse such as she has never before displayed on cither stage or screen is also apparent. In addition to this remarkable Pickford characterization there is presented tho art of DeMille, creator of "Joan, the Woman," the famous screen spectacle, and other cinema triumphs. 'Staged at tho new Lnsky qtudios in California, the pro duction offers various innovations in motion picture technique that are only possible as a result of the novel in stallments of this model plant, under tho supervision of Mr. De Mille. Sup porting the star is an exceptional cast i including Elliott Dexter, Charles Ogle, Tully Marshall, Ravmond Hatton and Winter Hall. The plan provides for a standard railway line, connecting United States roads through British Columbia and Alaska with Bchring strait and a line from the Siberian coast to the Trans Siberian railway. Large ferries would carry freight and passenger cars across the 56 mile wide strait. Negotiations have been opened with the Russiani Government to improve the Trans-Siberian railway into ,a modern road instead of a primitive stretch of track overburdened by war transportations. The United States commission to Russia will take up that phase of the proposed line with the new Russian Government. , Men back of the undertaking be lieve that within a few years an inter national railway will connect New York with Petrograd. They are tak ing into consideration the possibility of the war lasting several years. The promotors of tno project are satisfied that future benefits would justify the vast financial outlay that will be necessary. They declare that a few years of world peace would make it the most important railway route on earth. Never Neglect a Cold. This Safely Removes Worms.
