A very interesting collection of relics of the Spanish-Americun war are on display,.in the window at tho G. S. Birnie Jewelry fetore. The col lection was picked up in the Philip pines and consists of two small pieces Of telegraph cable, a hat ribbon worn by a sailor of tile Spanish ship, Reina Christina, a base fuse for a big gun used in '98. Shell for the German 'Nordenveldt machine gun also a relic of 98; a common three pound fire gun shell, firing pins for two rifles, the Mauser, (Spanish) and the Norden veldt (German machine) and besides this a three pound powder case, a lime fuse for Shrapnel, shell for a ! one pounder Hotkiss revolving cannon and a powder brg for a 15 centimeter Spanish gun are exhibited. In the Collection is also found a piece of i Teak wood taken from the top of the Spanish Flag Ship the Reina Chris tina which was sunk on May 1,. '98 in Manila Bay. H. E. Press) Emmett Gclligan is opening up today what is believed to be one of the richest gold, silver and copper mines discovered in the western part of tho United States in many years.' Galligan says the body of ore is 125 feet wide and runs $12 a ton in gold alone. It also contains five per cent copper and two ounces of silver to the ton. , The vein is believed to be indefinite. Gclligan estimates $15,-j 000,000 in ore is already blocked out. The big body of ore was discovered at a time when Gelligan had about made up his mind to quit. AMERICAN COM MiSSION ' SAILS FROM VANCOUVER Vancouver, B. C, Juno 7. (United Press) Bound for Persia and the Caucasus, two American relief com-, missioners sailed from Vancouver to day. They are Dr. William T. Ellis' of Swarthmore, Pa., and Charles E. Beury of Philadelphia. Both are mem-; bers of the American Commission for Armenian and Syrian Relief. Their task is to investigate and report up on the work of their oreranization. The Uip will be made over the Trans-Si-! berian railway. Lawyers Fix Scale. Bowling Green, June 7.
