With Washington in the bone-dry class, the entire northwest will be ex tremely arid. Idaho and Oregon have i drastic anti-liquor laws which forbid! the importation of liquor under, any conditions. (United Press) Orders for the immediate manufacture and delivery of 36,000,000 feet of lumber are in the hands of northwest mills today for the big camp at American Lake where 60,000 men from Idaho, Washington and Oregon will train for service in the trenches. The Northerni Pacific is mobilizing 3000 men who will put in switches, spurs and sidings at the big camp. The railroad estimates that It will spend $250,000 in these improvements. It is estimated that between 5000 and 8000 men will be required to construct the cantonments and army post depots. Immediate construction is planned, so that the camp will be ready when the first 500,000 men are drafted into ser vice. American Lake is the divisional training point for the northwestern states. With his carefully adjusted j and sensitive instruments he hunted up and down the left side of Lyle Car row, Salem youth, and back again. But there was no trace of a heart. "The boy must have a heart. He'd be dead if he didn't," he mused. Then turning to Carrow, he exclaimed. "Here, run around the room a dozen times as fast as you can." Carrow did, then stopped for an other examination. Another search on . the left side failed to reveal a trace j of a heart, but the doctor noticed a j throbbing on the right side under Car row's arm and here the heart was found. 1 Carrow 's request for a waiver was granted. With the French Armies, June 6. France has begun training the class of 1918 consisting of the youngest re cruits, by whose side America's army will be fighting next fall, should the war last that long. The new French class will be younger than the men of the American army. They will be but 19, white the youngest Americans will be 21. All France hopes that American intervention will render it unnecessary to ever again call out one of the French classes before the usual military age. The class of 1918 which is now at the instruction camps is probably on 3 of the finest France has produced. It is being especially instructed' in bayonet fighting and hand-grenading. Cholera Morbus.
