son are here from San Pedro, Calif.,
for an extended visit with relatives
and friends. Mrs. Pulliam is Mr. and
Mrs. William Sion's daughter.
Miss Mabel Hug is staying with
her aunt, Miss L M. Hug, taking ad
vantage of a few weeks more of
school.
Six pupils attending Dry Creek
school took a partial examination.
All passed successfully.
Mrs. Johnnie Wagoner has not been
well for several weeks. We hope for
a speedy recovery. '
Many from here wished to witness
the military drill in Elgin yesterday
(Sunday) but the weather prevented.
We have learned since that the drill
was postponed a week on account of
the rain. So we may have the pleas
ure of seeing it yet.
Memorial Day services have never
been better here. The oration by our
pastor, Rev. Goo. R. Archer, was cer
tainly a most impressive one, full
of the truest patriotism. Mr. Archer
is keenly alive to the needs of the
hour. Mr. Archer's oration was fol
lowed by a few well-chosen remarks
by Mr. Chas. Cochran from Portland.
The supper netted a neat sum. One
given for this cause is always patron
ized 'by all who can possibly do so.
Many commendable remarks were
made in regard to the neat and beau
tiful appearance of the cemetery.
Mr. Archer has charge o the work.

LA GRANDE AND SALEM
TIE UP SHOOT
As a result of a tie shoot yesterday
between the La Grande Gun Club and
the Capital City Gun Club, of Salem,
the championship series of the Colum
biaWillamette Trapshooters' Associa
tion for The Oregonian trophies must
go into extra innings.
The Woodburn Gun Club leads the
league with five wins and one defeat,
but La Grande still has a chance to tie
by defeating the Capitol City nimrods.
The tie will be shot off next Sunday
and if La Grande loses to Salem,
Woodburn will have undisputed rights
to the title.
Woodburn had a close shave yester
day in its final match of the schedule,
defeating Oregon City.
Yesterday's results: Woodburn 111,
Oregon City 110; Albany 121;
Pendleton 110; iSalem 123, La
I ing off a tie). Astoria remained idle
'having completed its schedule last
