The city commission met last night,
audited bills, and received the city
manager's report as follows:
I herewith submit to you my report
for the week ending May 5th: Fire
chief reported one fire, the South
Methodist church being again set on
fire. Found fire had started on the
floor, extended along walls to roof.
Fire chief feels justified in saying that
fire was of incendiary origin. Thir
teen volunteers responded.

Street commission has finished
Clean-up week, there being about 25
per cent more rubbish than last year.
Have repaired sidewalk to park.
Expect to leave Monday for Beaver
creek with Water Superintendent
Hoyt.
Septic tank has been thoroughly
cleaned out and re-sealed at an ex
pense of $233.50, including cost of
equipment.
Chief of police re-inspected China
town and deported a few Chinamen.
They were newcomers here, men who
had no apparent business here. Both
sides of warring factions have lent
their co-operation in helping, the chief
of police to make his inspection.

to one, and that the county bonding
measure will go through with a whoop,
for the people of this county are over
whelmingly in favor of a hard-surfaced
highway through the county. And why
shouldn't they be in favor of these
measures when the highway can be
obtained with state and Federal aid?
Tillamookers know a good thing when
they see it, and no one need be sur
prised that they are all jumping on
the right side of the fence. Wo an
ticipate that those who are opposed to
the bonding the state and the county
for good roads will soon be advancing
the argument that we should go slow
on account of the war, so as to scare
people. It will not work, however,
for everybody knows that good roads
are the first step to preparedness.
