A good many of the audience to night took several promises with me during this day, but I shall now ask them to take one final public pledge. If the entire audience will arise, I will ask them to pledge their allegiance to times ready to assist either the Coun cil itself or its individual members. This brother is well known to every brother at this table and it is hardly necessary to mention his name as every brother here could guess the first time, and guess Brother J. H. Peare, Past Grand Knight of La Grande Council and District Deputy for Eastern Oregon for the past five years, and if ever the time comes that the Knights of Columbus of Eastern Woods", and "Killarnoy", the latter as an encore. W. M. Peare sang a patriotic song that made a great hit, '"If You Don't Like Your Uncle Sam my". Mrs. P. A. Foley aroused the patriotic sentiment of the audience by singing in a spirited manner, "Co lumbia The Gem of the Ocean", the audience joining in the chorus. CURREY. City Manager. Adv. 4-30-2C. Parish Meeting. There will be a meeting of the mem bers of St. Peter's parish tonight, in the church, nt 7:30 for the election of wardens and vestrymen. About a' year later these two good brothers believed that La Grande should have its own counci hind that Baker was strong enough to stand alive. So they endeavored to organize a Council at La Grande, which was accomplished. But it was soon learned that Baker and La Grande ahd two very weak Councils numerically and financially. La Grande then advocat ed consolidated with Baker, which was done, and the La Grande members went back to B.ikcr. About five years later in May, 1911, the same brothers attempted a second Council nt Lti Grande with a charter membership of 47 loyal Catholic citizens. Since that time La Grande Council has prospered and we now have a membership of 110 true and loyal Knights. Soon af ter the re-organization of the La Grande Council, Ontario wa3 organ ized after which Pendleton Council followed. Now brothers there is a brother behind all of this, whom you know. He is a brother that never mises an opportunity to advance the interests our Hold mother Church or tho Order of Knights of Columbus. There is no task too hadr for him to undertake and nlmost invariably bring to a successful ending.
