past three or four years, left Monday
for La Grande where he will work this

George Cleaver of Imblcr was in
town Tuesday taking ordcrj for apples
and apple syrup which is made at his
mill at Imbler.
Charles S. Hawes and J D. Larson
vent to La Grande Tuesday. Mr.
Larson accepted a position in the
O.-W. R. & N. roundhouse and did not
return. Mr. Hawes returned Wednes
day. F. N. Cassel went to Pendleton
Tuesday returning home the same day.

Stock Losses Not Heavy.
Pendleton, April 14. (Special)
Nate Raines, who is in today from
his John Day cattle ranch, states that
reports of the stock losses in that vi
cinity during the winter have been
. exaggerated. The losses have been
jbut little above normal, he states,

pensive one from a feed standpoint.

Warnings Are Issued.
Bremerton, Wash., April 14.
(United Press) There's no doubt
about the fact that war exists when
one sees such warnings as are posted
today about the Puget Sound navy
yard 'here. The warning, issued by
Captain R. E. Cooner, commandant,
follows:
"All persons operating vessels,
'boats, Bkiffs, etc., other than those be
longing to the naval and military
forces of the United StateB are
warned to keep out of the waters ad
jacent to the Navy Yard and not to
approach closer than 500 feet to the
line between the ends of Coaling Pier
Wo. 1 and lier No. 8.
"Vessels or boats disregarding this
warning will be fired upon."

Press) After prisoners in the city
jail ihad discovered a nicely cooked
rat in their boiled potatoes at break
fast the police started out 6n a hunt
for the restaurant proprietor who
feeds the prisoners. He may be pros
ecuted for violating the pure food law.
