unpleasantness, is reported improved
and nble to be out in tho wheel chair.

FRENCH FIGHT.

not of the type heretofore ex
emplified. Battle front dispatches indicate
the French forces are fighting on
the Hindcnburg line, the British
are not so far advanced.
The Russian statement indicated
resumption of violent fighting on
the eastern front. Intense Ger
man attacks were repulsed.

rest, for speeding, and $10 paid in
fines. Meals to city prisoners, 16;
and to county and state, 39. number
of days for special officers, three;
gave sleeping accommodations to
three; prisoners in jail, four; six
lights at different locations were out,
and on the 23rd all except four on
East Adams were out for one hour.

Tho water superintendent has a
force of men at work on the Second
street sewer, also one man and m-is-
oner at septic tank. Owing to the
quantity of sediment in the tank,
work there is progressing slowly, but
we are operating nt a total cost of

Precautions have been taken to
bank up the intake of' the irrigation
ditch which lets the water into the tin
sewer, and also for closing gaps in
tho levy, in order to prevent floods
in that part of town.
In excavating for tho heating plant
and coal apartments the foundation of
the city building has been weakened,
and it is my opinion that measures
should be taken toward protecting
same. I have had a builder examine
the foundation, prepare estimate of
the cost of plncing additional walls
and piers to insure the building's
safety. The estimate is only approxi
mate, and ranges from $300 to $350.
The concrete work on the heating
plant has been completed, but forms
have not yet been removed. The job
will be ready for inspection by next
meeting night.
