City Manager's Report
La Grande, Ore, March 23. (To
the Honorable Commission, of the
City of La Grande) I herewith sub
mit you my report for the week end
ing March 17, 1917, as follows:
The fire chief reports two fires; one
at the restaurant, 1111 Adams. It
was extinguished before the arrival
of the department Nothing was
used: 2 volunteers responded. An-
other fire at No. 1617 Seventh avenue
was extinguished with chemicals only,
making the loss smaller than if water
had been used; 35 gallons of chemicals
used and 600 feet of hose laid, none of
which was used; 12 volunteers re
sponded. Issued labor certificate for
$2.00, installing fire bells.
The water superintendent reports a
total expenditure for the week of
$35.60, of which $23.00 was for clean
ing tank, $5.75 on shut-off list, and
$6.85 for leaks and repair work.
The chief of police reports 13 ar-
