(United Press) So much has been written of Hans Wagner, his record, his habits, and his all round sterling qualities, that it seems futile to add to the miles of columns that have been used in his favor. Wagner, however, is getting ready to enter his twenty-sixth season of baseball, and the marvel of it is, he is counted on to play a most im portant part in the hopes of the Pitts burg Pirates. Wagner is a wonder. His remarkable ball playing isn't the only thing that holds him up to fan dom on a pedestal few players ever have reached and none surpassed. C. HAMILTON (United Press Staff Correspondent) New York, March 20. Track stars from every section of the country ar rived here today for competition to night in the annual senior indoor championship of the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States. The meet will be held in the armory of the Twenty-second regiment, New York National guard. For the first time in the history of the championships Cornell will be rop- ! resented by a team of athletes. Ezra Wenz and Alma Richards, the latter the all-round star from the Ithaca col jlege, will compete. Sensational performances are ex pected to be recorded. Joie Ray, the distance running marvel, doubtless will j take some more cracks at long estab ! lished records, while the sprints are certain to develop some extraordinary performances. Jack Eller, the local hurdler, prob acy will lie barred from the meet. He was suspected of wearing shoes ! with spikes when the Metropolitan championships were held in the arm ory last month and uol. vandermit, commanding the regiment, has asked that the athlete violating armory rules be barred from further competition in that building. Secretary Frederick W. P.ubicn, of the A. A. U., promised the action would he taken if the man could be found. The following events make up the program for the national champion ships: Sixty yards run, 300 yards run, 600 yards run, 1,000 yards run, two-mile run, two-mile walk, five-mile run, 70 yards hurdles, six hurdles 3 feet six inches high, placed ten yards apart; standing high jump, standing broad jump, sixteen-pound shot put, and a re lay race for teams of four men each, first man to run 440 yards, second 220 yards, third 880, fourth one mile. Gold medals will be given first place winners, silver for the second, and bronze for third. A silver cup will be given to the college or athletic club team scoring the highest number of points.
