"THE AMERICANO" HAS
FINE FAIRBANKS ROLE
Douglas Fairbanks mukos his latest
appearance as a Triangle star in the
five reel drama '"The Americano,"
dramatized from the novel "Blaze
Derringer," by Eugene P. Lyle, Jr.
The play, which will be seen at the
Arcade theater Wednesday and Thurs
day, has to do with the adventures in
a South American republic of a young
American named 'Blaze Derringer,
who goes to Paraxon La to represent
American mining interests. He finds
the country in a state of revolution,
with its president and prime minster,,
who have been friendly to his com
pany, overthrown and in peril of their
lives. Before his departure from New
York Blaze has fallen violently in love
with the beautiful daughter of the
president, and ho finds her in dire
peril of being married by force to an
officer of the revolutionist army. Of
course the quelling of a revolution and
the restoration of order is a trifling
task to a young man of Mr. Fair
banks' intense nature, and the close
of the picture see3 the villains prop
erly foiled and the girl rescued. in
order that she may wed the athletic
hero. "The Americano" is said to
furnish five recta of the most strenu
ous activity thut Fairbanks has yet
displayed and also to be ono of the
best pictures, from a dramatic stand
point, in which he has appeared. He
is supported by Alma Ruebvn as the
senorita, and other Triangle favorites
having prominent roles in the cant are
Spottiswoode Aitken, Carl Stockdale
and Tom 'Wilson.

There are twj things I don't want
.to do. Take a trip in a war balloon
or in a submarine. At the same time
if I had the chance, perhaps J would,
i I went up in a balloon once and it
was a mighty enjoyable trip. You
can look down on people from the
clouds and they seem just like ants
hurrying about. It's a good thing
once in a while to get where you can
look down on the earth and see how
small and petty earthly affairs are.
A Portland girl used to say "good
morning" in a cheery way to an old
ferry gateman and when he died he
left her $10,000. Which was very nice
of the old gentleman. 'But her smile
and cheery voice were cheap at the
price.

HIPPODROME VAUDEVILLE
ARCADE TOMORROW
AT
Tomorrow is the big day for La
Grande. It will see the first showing
of regular big time vaudeville, the
same kind of acts, in fact the same
acts that show in all of the large
cities. It was no small matter for the
managers of the Arcade theater to
get these acts for La Grande but they
were bound and determined that the
people of La Grande should see ood
vaudeville and filso felt that the peo
ple would appreciate what was being
done for them in the way of enter
tainment.
The first show that opens at the
Arcade tomorrow certainly looks like
a winner, lhe headline attraction is
Edna Riese & Co. in the playlet, "Our
Career. It is a side splitting com
edy playlet splendidly acted and has
scored great success everywhere. An
other number is "The Dancing Cro-
nins, in a dancing act very much
out of the ordinary- Their costumes
are very, elaborate nnd original as
well as the dances. They have just
completed a mor.t successful tour of
Australia and New Zealand. Thev
are also proteges of Mr. and Mrs,
Vernon Castle. Mr. Darro fills out
the bill with his high class comedy
acrobatic tumbling act. He has created
ja sensation wherever he has perform
ed and has a variety of novelties dif
ferent from any other acrobat.
On account of the length of the
show the management wishes it un
derstood that the first show tomor
row night and Thursday will begin at
7 o'clock, instead of 7:15 and the sec
ond show will begin at 9 o'clock.
