At 3 o'clock another story hour, for the childrun of tho second and third grades, will be held. Thursday the M. I. A. basketball tournament will be held. Thursday night the La Grande high school bas ketball earn will play the Pendleton Kamelu, Ore., Feb. 20. (Special) Mrs. Frank Hanlen gave the school children a Valentine party Wednesday evening in the hall. Games were play ed and music was furnished for dan cing by Mr. and Mrs. Spear. The postoffice was opened and Valentines distributed. Candy and apples were served as refreshmetns. At 10:30 all went home happy. I.ee Mathis returned from Portland Thursday night on No. 18. Bert Savage, day foreman of the wipers, and Joe Hughey, La Grande fkeman, left for Portland Sunday morning on No. 17, to spend the week. Mr. Wholesapple and Kieth'have taken their horses to Pendleton to pasture. Saturday was the 16th and almost all of the railroaders' wives went to a Grande to shop. The wrecker was in Kamela Sunday to put a car on the track. Fireman Plauss of La Grande will soon tie in , Kamela again, having "bumped" Fireman Hickox of Kamela. E. B. Kidder and E. L. Aljen of Ka mela went over to the brakes on Mc Cay to look after their stock. The Chase brothrs were in Kamela yesterday and took out a load of pro visions on their skiis, that being the only way it is possible to get anything into the country at present. Engineer King went to Baker on No. 4 on business and returned Mon day night on No. 19. E. B. Kidder went to Athena Mon day to attend her father's funeral and returned home Wednesday. W. 11.
