The following' is from an editorial
in the Living Church, of Feb. 3, a
paper published in Milwaukee in the
interest of the Episcopal Church.
"It may be that there will be no
available printing paper in this
country next fall at any price; for
shall we tell a secret that has come
to us on what seems to be good
authority? the real trouble about
paper seems to be that the sulphite
puip is being shipped abroad to the
belligerent nations on a huge scale
for use as a substitute for gun cot
ton. -
The firm which publishes this paper
publishes also other periodicals and
books. It has recently announced
that its bill for print paper for the
ensuing year, will be $20,000 more
than that of last, owing to the in

beautiful stories ever written and its

Milk can alone supply all the neces
sary materials for growth and repair
of the human body, since it contains
all of the food principles, writes Pro
fessor Fffie I. Raitt, head of the de
partment of home economics of the
University of Washington, in the Jan
uary number of Better Business, a
magazine published monthly by the
university extension division.
Miss Raitt believes that milk should
form a part of the diet as long as
there is growth. She points out that
it has distinct advantages for adult
life as well. For the first twenty-five
years some milk should be included in
each day's diet, she says.
"Milk contains protein, tne repair
or tissue-forming element," says Miss
Raitt. "It is the only food which con
tains nitrogen. Carbohydrates, that
give its starches and sugars, and the
fats, are the fuel foods. They are
burned in the body and supply energy,
which may be manifested as heat or
motion.
1 "The protein is capable of being
burned in the samo way. Some of the
daily supply of this food element goes
for fuel. There rxc also present the
inorganic elements necessary to the
nutrition of man, controlling as they
do the contraction of muscles, main
taining neutrality in the blood, and
composing the largest part of the
framework of the body."
