Enterprise, Ore., Feb. 13 (Special) Mrs. S. D. Keltner, who was oper ated on for appendicitis, is recovering nicely. Mrs. Keltner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. U L. McKennon of La Grande. George McAnulty, who was skid ding logs at tho Lapwal sawmill, had the misfortune to smash his foot. Fortunately there were no bones brok en and he will 3oon be able to resume his work. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wright and fam ily moved into their home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reaves will move into the phone office and Mlrs. Reaves will run the switchboard at night. The revival meetings which have been running about a month closed Tuesday night with a lecture given by the evangelist. About a hundred per sons joined during the meetings. The evangelist and his wife go to La Grande to hold meetings there. The National Stock company played to a lairge audience on Wednesday night. Next week they will play "Northern Lights." Heacock's orches tra furnishes spendid music during the evening. On Monday night at the Federated church a reception was held for the mew members who had joined during the meetings. The church was well filled with members of the church and their friends. After some singing and a nice talK by tnc evangelist a nice lunch was served by the Ladies' Aid of the church. ine passenger train came in on time last Tuesday, the first time for about four days. Every one was anx ious to get their mail again and to WHAT IS IT? find out about the war. The Enterprise hotel is to be re modeled this summer. Larger win dows will be put in and tho lobby en larged and a good many improve ments made which will greatly add to the appearances of the hotel. The hotel was built before the irailroad came into Enterprise. Enterprise is to have a packing plant. A two story concrete building will be built on 20 acres on the edge of town. This will employ about 25 men when running. Mrs. Peairl Howard, who is here from Alaska visiting her brother, Jack Craton, has gone to Pendleton to visit her mother. She made a 500 milo journey with her dogs and sled. From California she and her husband will take a trip to the Hawaiian is- 1 lands. Dr. and Mrs. S. D. Taylor were guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Butlor of La Grande during the week. j The rural mail carriers have had a hard time the last week. The fairmei-s have had to get out and help Shovel the snow so that they could get through with the mail. In a good many sections they had to remain over night at tho farm houses until they could get the snow shoveled away the next day. A very heavy fog has rested over Enterprise all week, the sun scarcely shining at all. On Friday night, February 16, the K. of P. expect to give a minstrel show. This will be their fourth an nual show and they are expecting to give a better one than ever before. There are a good many cases of measles and mumps in Enterprise though none are proving serious. George Ratcliff left Saturday far Portland to be there during buyers week. A. C. Miller has been on the sick list the past week, but is able to be around now. George Mitchell returned Friday from Crater Lake, where he went with the shipment of elk from the Meadows near here. Mr. Scites is very low with tuber culosis at his home in Enterprise. E. J. Conkleman, the plumler, has moved into the new Bumaugh build ing. Enterprise has an auto delivery company which delivers for most all of the stdres. They make two deliv. eries in the morning and two' in the afternoon. After March 1 all barber shops in Enterprise will close at 7:S0 p. m ex cept on Saturdays when they will close at 10 o clock. F. W. Wagner's " son died in La Grande Tuesday of last week, where lie was taken for treatment. His fu neral was held Thursday afternoon at the Federated church. Rev. Mr. Adams preached the funeral sermon. There seems to be a good deal of sickness up in the lumber camps. The livery stable is kept busy sending out sleighs, taking doctors up to the camps the snow being so deep the autos cannot go. Walter Maxwell wtis a La Grande visitor the first of the week, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilbert. Earl Kleiner returned the first of the week from a business trip to Spokane. C. E. Lewis has been on the sick list this week. Roscoo Ghormely left the first of the week for Idaho and other eastern points. W. A. Dunn, of the Eagle Cap laundry, and family are now comfort ably situated in the Harley Flecner I residence on iortn sireei. Mrs. uunn is a licensed chiropractor and has her office at her residence. The Enterprise high school basket ball team returned Sunday from a successful tour including l,a Grande and Union. The masquerade given by tho En terprise band was a great success, the hall being filled to capacity. Prizes were awarded to the best costumes.
