Little ranch, throe miles northwest of Haines, was sold yesterday to W. M. Sieg of Baker for $ 16,000. The ranch includes 140 acres. Mr. Sieg has been farming near Ba ker for several years and will move to his newly purchased property in the spring as soon as the weather will permit him tp cultivate the land. The ranch is said to be suitable for stock and grain raising and for gen eral agriculture. Mr Little, the former owner, resides at Cove and has been renting the ranch to tenants. La Grande M. I. A. Team Wins at Imbler The La Grande M. I. A. basketball team defeated the Imbler basketball team at Imbler last night, 16 to 13. The game saw Vern Bean back in play after an absence of over three years and Bean displayed his usual good form. Stringham and Morris of the Imbler club team played as veterans. Roscnbaum for La Grande played the floor well. Larsen connected with the hoop regularly. Hollister showed that he is never too old to get away with the guard position. A. basketball team will probably leave on an east ern playing trip the last week of this month. Arrangements are now being made for games with teams in On tario, Payette, Caldwell and Boise. Eight or probably nine men will be selected from the following to make the trip: Larsen, E. Rosenbaum, J. Rosenbaum, V. Bean, T. Hollister, Schofield, Roy Bain, Vern Ainsworth, W. (Bean and Elmer Horstman.' The M. I. A. basketball tournament will start the second week in Febru ary. Teams from the associations in Baker, Union, Imbler, Mt. Glenn and this city will compete. Leak of Peace Note To Be Investigated Washington, D. C, Jan. 12. Strange Sights Seen During Explosions Shells Fall on Village -of Kingsland, Ji'cw Jersey, When Plant of Car and Foundry Company Is Destroyed. Kingsland, N. J., Jan. 12. (United Press) Strange sights were seen as shells swept around this village dur ing the foundry plant explosions last night. Men, women and children wierdly clad struggled homeward through the ir.termitten shelling. They experienced sensations similar to war zone fighting. Many families were separated dur ing flight following the first ex plosions. They were wandering aim lessly this afternoon hunting hus bands and wives. The plunt of the Canadian Car At Foundry Company, one-half mile east of Kingsland, N. J., in which were stored hundreds of thousands of shells destined for the Russian government, was destroyed late last night by fire and a series of explosions which con tinued for three hours. So far as could ilie learned no one was killed or in 'jured, although it was caid 17 work- nrr.en were missing. j No estimate of the loss was obtain able, but it wns said it mightt reach $4, 000,000.
