Would you like to attend the Grain Growers' convention to be held in Cor vallis during Farmers' Week at O. A. C? Do you know that the fare will be one and a third ($15.10) for the round-trip ? If 30 Union county I men will agree to go, we can secure a tourist car direct from La Grande to Corvallis. This will cost for the 30 or more in addition $25 a day or less than a dollar a day. This car will be on the siding at Corvallis and you will sleep there each night. Meals can be secured very reasonably, and that will be practically your only other expense for the trip. This same car will bring you back to La Grande Saturday or Sunday night for the week ending January 6. If you are not interested in the Grain Growers' convention you might attend any of the following conventions during that week: Seed and Potato Growers' convention, Convention of Organized Farmers, Hog Producers School, Rural legislative Conference, Oregon Swine Breeders' convention, A Thrift convention, Oregon State Dairymen's convention, Prune convention, Road Builders' convention and Tractor and Stationary Gas Engine school. These are a few of the interesting things going on at that time. Thirty dollars ought to make the trip. Let me know at onco if you are interested as we have but a few days' time to get to gether on this proposition. Paul H. Spillman, County Agricultural Agent, second floor P. O. building. ('Special)' "Will the gas tractor supplant the horse on the farm?" Every farmer is entitled to his own opinion about this, but because tractors are coming mora and more into favor, progressive farmers are seeking some mean's' of investigating the matter. To give the farmers of Oregb'K "km opportunity to acquaint themselves with the tractor situation, by meeting with the actual conditions, the Farm Mechanics department of the Agricul tural college has arranged a gas 'fyi gine and tractor school January 1 to 14, to be held in connection with'the Farmers' Week' and Annual' Sfiort ' Course. , ''. The work will give those' Who. en- roll the best opportunity to become acquainted with the 20 gas engines, and 10 trnctors that will be assem bled. Fundamentals of machine de sign and the principles of internal combustion engines will open the work, after which the operation of the machines will be demonstrated and then the farmers themselves will have an opportunity to operate them, un der experienced men who will offer suggestions and help when needed. Study will be of ignition and carbu retor troubles and in fact everything that should be known in regard to tractor operation, maintenance and repair. Pipe fitting and soldering will be taken up as allied with engine work. A fee not to exceed $5.00 will be charged, the funds to be used only for the purchase of fuels and oils, such as are used by the fnrmers themselves, in the actual -operation of the tractors, and any balnnce remain ing will be refunded. Those attend, ing may take advantage of the spe cial rates offered by tho railroads and the reasonable living expenses in Corvallis. , ; - Delicious waffles, syrup, butter and' best coffee, 15 cents.
