(Special) ounuay, Dec. 17, was an historic day for the Catholic church in Pendleton. Worshippers of all denominutions were drawn by the bright sunshine to witness the impressive ceremonies of the dedication of the beautiful new church home. m At 9:30 a. m. the Kt. Kev. Every chair . was taken. At 10 o'clock Pontifical High Mass began. After the gospel Bishop O'Reilly preached a forcible sermon befitting the occasion. The musid rendered by St. Mary's choir, under the leadership of S. J. Lynch, was in spiring and adapted to the solemnity. SINGERS TO REHEARSE FOR CHRISTMAS EVE Tomorrow evening promptly at 7:30 all choirs of the different churches participating in the muni cipal Christmas tree program, to ia held Sunday evening at Fourth and Depot street, where a large tree will be lighted for the occasion, will meet at the Y. M. C. A. to rehearse the Christmas anthems and carols to be sung. At least 50 are expected to be out. Mrs. J. P. Graham is chairman of the music committee and desires all choir leaders to have their re spective choirs on hand. The re hearsal will be a brief one but it is important. XMA Only 4 Days.... (Special) John Dungan, a young railroad man of Pendleton, died at St. Vincent s hospital in Portland on the morning of the 14th, according to a letter re ceived by the East Oregonian yestei- Hn.. The deceased John Dungan, as far as can be learned, wa3 a member of a family living at Rieth. John B. Dun gan, an u.-W. brakeman, is the hus band of one of the daughters of Mrs. J. G. Rankin of 201 Garden street. Ho was recently injured in a fall from a box car and was sent to St. Vincent's hospital. When the news of the death of John Dungan arrived today, the East Oregonian called up the Rankin home to learn details. They had had no news of the death of their rela tive and the letter, read to them over the telephone, was a great shock, par ticularly to Mrs. Dungan. A long distance telephone call to St. Vin cent's hospital, however, soon dis pelled their fears and explained the report. They then remembered that the other John Dungan had also been sent to the hospital. DEAL FUNERAL TOMORROW Old Soldiers and W. R. C. (Unit Press) Militiamen have made a demonstration of discontent against remaining on the border. (Unit ed Press) Senator Smoot's absolute dry bill, affecting the District of Co lumbia, was defeated today, 61 to 8. It was offered as a substitute for Shcppard's partially dry measure. WHOLE FAMILY BURNED. Cheyenne, Wyo., Dec. 19. (United 1 Press) Roy White, of California, his wife and three sons were burned to death when the Inter-Ocean hotel was destroyed. A fourth son is missing I and probably is dead.
