Miss Lucite Haley, librarian at the public library, announces that the ex hibit of children's books at the La Grande Public library will remain here only through Wednesday, Dec. 13th. This exhibition is free, and all parents are invited to examine the books. Hours 1-0, 7-9 p. m., Sunday I::i0-5::i0, Among the books which have at tracted most favorable comment arc the following: Reed's "Western Bird Guide," which has colored illustrations as an aid to identifying different kinds of birds. "Stories from Hans Christian An dersen," illustrated by Maxwell Arm fietd. "Two Years Before the Mast," by Richard Henry Dana, Jr., with illus trations by L. Boyd Smith. "Tales from Shakespeare," illus trated by Arthur Rackham. "The Dutch Twins," by Lucy Fitch Perkins. This book, and others in the same series; "The Japanese Twins," and "The Irish Twins," are among the most popular books in the Ia Grande Public library. Lists of recommended books for children are distributed free of charge. These are early gone, but a few mare may be obtained on re quest. The lists contain the titles of many attractive books, which are lea expensive than some of those on ex hibition. "If young people are encouraged to demand the latest instead of the best books, a tendency now 1I too mast fest among adult readers will be ac centuated.
