Burnett drove seven head cf fat steers out to Elgin to market the fore part of last week and he sold them at 4 1-2 cents. The steers brought him $239.00. This is pretty good for Palmer Valley. C. A. He left for Walla Walla to stay a few days and then he goes to Portland. George Huntington Currcy came down Thursday to headquarters for a few hours on business and he reported the weather cold in La Grande. Ho returned the same night leaving head quarters at 4:20 that night. Clarence Jackson returned from La Grande Thursday where he had been for the past week. He reports he had a fine time while ho was there. H. A. Galloway was at Palmer Junction Thursday transacting busi ness of importance. Bean, of this city, who was elected to the house of representatives in the next legislature, is a candidate for1 the speakership, among other, in cluding Robert N. Stanfield, of Uma tilla county, Dr. J. E. Anderson, of The Dalles and Johfi M. Mann, A. C. Callan, and K. K. Kubli, of Portland. The ability of Mr. Bean as a legis lator is recognized over the state as ho has been a member of the senate several terms. Appearances indicate that Mr.' Stan field will have strong support from Multnomah county nnd from Eastern Oregon. The Marion county delegation is said to be solid for Jones, who was elected for the first time this year, and is therefore an experienced man in the business.
