G. Stewart and others of this place. She has recently un dergone a series of operations in La Grande hospital and has not as yet been able to take up her duty as teacher, but expects to in the near future. Sam Wade cut one wrist in a fear ful manner a few weeks ago while pruning his orchard. He was up in n tree and was about to cut a limb, when one foot slippod and the knife laked across the wrist, severing the artery. iBy sheer will-power he fought down the tendency to faint, which would have left him ulone, probably to bleed to death in the orchard. (Special) The Enterprise Record Chieftain says: Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller and baby went to La Grande last Friday, expecting to make their home outside. Bertha Tipnett came home last week for the funeral of her niece, the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tippett. Born, Thursday, October 26, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Lee, of En terprise. J. M. Blakely went to La Grande on Monday on business keeping him until Wednesday. Born, Thursday, October 2r,, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams, of Zumwalt. Born, Sunday, October 22, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Makin, who are living in Enterprise. A north-end tragedy was reported on Monday by Mrs. T. M. Gilmore of Klora. The physician's bird iog trot loose and killed several of Msr. Gil-1 more's choicest chickens, and the worst of it was' the owner of the pet only laughed at the havoc it wrought. The stone work on S. L. Burnauirh's new store building is just finished and Contractor S. R. Haworth will have the roof on in a few days. Then the in terior can be done without 'put of damage from storm or cold. The building has heen erected in very good time. Mrs. D. M. Cunningham accom panied her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Ognn, to Ija Grande Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Ogan going to the Teachers' institute and her mother just taking a vacation trip. They left Mr. Cunningham alone with fires to build, house to keep, and seven hungry mouths to feed. But he is equal to the job. Mrs. A. C. Miller went to Ii Grande Tuesday afternoon for a visit with friends and relatives. Mrs. L .E. Little spent tho latter part of last week in La Grande visit- TWO AGED LADIES TRAVELING California and Washington Women Meet With Mutual Friends. Mrs. M. B. Hodges, of Lankashan Cal., and Mrs. Verda Williams, of Se attle, both of whom are over 70 year3 of age, are visiting at the Mrs. A. Mays home. Mrs. Mays is a grand daughter of Mrs. Hodges' and Mrs. Williams is a great aunt of the La Grande lady. The two old ladies are healthy and well, having met here while on pleas urn jaunts from their respective cit ies. Needless to say the reunion of of 2,008 discharged from city hospit als showed evidence of paralysi: eighteen per cent showed that pa rulysis had entirely disappeared and the remainder, sixteen per cent had!' not shown effects of paralysis at any time. Of 2,715 cases followed in ' thr homes, 1885 were found seriously par alyzed in either one or both legs and are unable to walk. Five hundred and! thirty, though partially paralyzed inv the legs can walk. Two hundred and seventy-three suffer paralysis in one ' or both arms. The youngsters are be ing fitted with braces and are being scientifically taught the use of their crippled arms and legs. !
