A strong, capable and true citizen
was Charles E. Vest, who passed to
the beyond Tuesday morning. He
lived in Wallowa county for more than
one-third of a century and his record
was before the eyes of his fellows
and not one reproach lies against
him. He believed that what a man
should have he should earn and so he
toiled all his life; he believed the best
way to avoid self-reproaches was
never to do anything to create them;
he had his own opinions but did not
quarrel with those who held opposite
ones; he believed that a land like this
was entitled to the absolute fealty of
its citizens and so gave it his without
one reservation. His death occasions
! a distinct loss to the community and
an irreparable one to his family.
I To them the one comfort lies in the
; knowledge that in his name alone he
j left a heritage of honor and that their
i grief is shared by all who knew the
loved one whom they have lost.
