Til l run lo dale this month is 700 head, and there are for ths greatest run ever shown- hove since the Portland Union stackyards was established. Steady tone was generally shown in the mutton and lamb trade at North Portland for the initial trans actions for the week. There was a fair run reported in the yards over Sunday, and general sentiment was about the same as for recent weeks. With a very liberal run of swine in the yards over Sunday, much weak ness was shown in the North Port land market at the start of the week's trading. RAILROADING IS EXPENSIVE Northern Pacific Pays $133.28 a Min ute to Operate Road.' St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 17. It costs $133.28 a minute to operate the Northern Pacific railroad. These fig ures were given out today by the railroad. The cost of operating the roads 0,000 miles of track is $148,780 daily, but this does not include the $19,797 daily spent for permanent im provements.
