Theodore Doucet Plays "David"
Theodore Doucet, who plays the role
of David, the young Russian exile In
"The Melting Pot," has, by hard work
and close study, made a rapid rise in
his orofession in the ten vears he has
i oeen in this country. He is a K rench
l Canadian bv birth, and. after arjrjear-
mg in amateur performances m Mon-
ireai, decided to come to New rork.
His first professional engagement
was with a small traveling repertoire
organization, and owing to the small
company he was forced to assume a
wide and waried line of parts. Hav
ing an exceptionally good voice, two
: years later found him in musical com
edy with Henry Woodruff in "The
Prince of Tonight."
But the real dramatic work was the
goal of this young actor, so he en
tered stock, first, in support of Flo
rence Rockwell with the Shubert Stock
of Indianapolis, followed my a sea
son in Minneapolis with Jane Tyrell
and Florence Roberts.
When Walker Whiteside opened in
"The Typhoon," Mr. Doucet was sel
ected to head "The Melting Pot" com
pany and won the highest praise for
his interpretation of the exacting role
of David.

A Good Exhibit at a Good State Fair,
Corvallis, Ore., Oct. 17 "The State
Fair at Salem this year was the best
in our history, and the educational and
competitive exhibits of the Agricul
tural College were frequently spoken
of as one of its most attractive
features," said H. A. Vickers, secre
tary of the Extension Service.
The three divisions of the College
campus instruction, experiment sta
tion and extension were reDresented
by appropriate exhibits. The set of
transparencies cave accurate and
vivid pictures of campus scenes and
features, many being new and ail
interesting. Grains, typical of the
work of ail the branch stations, were
shown in the exhibits of the Eastern
Oregon Branch Station, and snlendid
educational exhibits featured the
work of the central station at Cov
vallis. Numerous departments of the
Extension Service set forth character
istic displays. And in addition to this,
the competitive swine exhibit was of
such class that though small it won
large number of prizes, including sev
'en firsts.
"The Home Economics booth ex
cited a verv great den! of interest".
said Mr. Vickers. "The domestic
science section demonstrated dairy
and poultry foods, salads, etc., two
young women being busy wiih the
preparation and serving of the foods
to those interested. Cheese sonffie
sandwiches, salads and ice cream were
especially featured. The model liv
ing room, furnished and decorated by
the domestic arts section, evoked
much favorable comment. This dis
play showed the excellent results that
can be obtained in securing pleasing
effects with inexpensive materials
properly selected and arranged."
The model room furnishings were
designed by Miss Grace Giliett, of the
College staff. The food demonstra
tion was in charge of Miss Anna M.
nov v,ermans. was granted a
j months exemption from joining the
army.
