"Hulda From Holland" Stars Mary
I'ickford.
Forsaking Japan and Italy, versa
tile Mary Pickford has turned W
golden smile upon Holland and stars
in her newest Famous Players produc
tion as the little Dutch girl in "Hulda
From Holland," by Edith Barnard De
lano, which will he the Paramount pic
ture at the Arcade theatre tonight and
tomorrow. In this delightful tale of
the land of the tulip Mies Pickford is
more appealing, if possible, than in
many of ljer previous appearances, a
fact which, coupled with the pictur-
esqueness of the Dutch settings and
costumes which mark the opening of
the picture, makes it an unusual pro
duction even for Miss rickford and
the Famous Players.
The story opens in Holland, where
litlla Hulda finds herself in sole
charge of her three infant brothers
upon the death of her parents. Hor

He meets them at the pier in New
York but is injured whilu seeking in
formation about trains and is taken
to a hospital where no means of
identification is found upon him.
Distracted by the disappearance of
her uncle, Hulda wins the sympathy

to the tune of his organ. While prac

skylight and falls into the studio of
a young artist who looks upon her as
a heaven-sent model.
Meanwhile the accident to Uncle
Peter has caused as much distress to
President Walton of the New Central
Railroad as it has to Hulda but for
very different reasons. The railroad
has been trying to purchase a right of
way through the stubborn old man's
property and he will not sell. Walton
has only three days in which to close
the deal or lose the backing of heavy
financial interests, when suddenly
Uncle Peter disappears. Frantic ef
forts are made to locate him and de
tectives finally discover that he has
been in the hospital, but not until he
has been discharged.
iWalton learns that Uncle Peter has j

Ouida Novel Has Long Record in
Stage and Story.
"Under Two Flags," the novel by
Ouida which the genius of William
Fox has turned into a film master
piece, has had a long history in its
printed form, and as a piece for the
stage. Many dramatic versions of ti.o
novel have been acted, the most im
portant oeing by Paul M. Potter, who
also dramatized du Mauiier's "Tril
by." Another version was made by
Margaret Mayo, author of "Twin
Beds," and "Baby Mine," famous Now
York farces.
A strange thing about the play is
that it was given at the Academy of
Music, in 1901, with Blanche Bates
in the role of Cigarette. The same
