A novelty was presented in Enterprise last Fri day, a strike in the building trades. Six men joined in the walkout, forcing- the laying off of six others, and stopping, temporarily, the work on one contract. The strikers were teamsters em ployed by John Oberg on the excava tion for the S. D. Kcltnor building. They had been receiving $4.50 a day for nine hours work, or 50 cents an hour for a man and team, the scale that has been prevailing all spring. They asked ?5 a day. Mr. Oberg re plied that he would pay that wage for 10 hours work, maintaining the rate hour. This is the rate paid for men and teams this season by the East Oregon company and other em ployers. This was not satisfactory to the teamsters and they quit. They were handling Fresno scrapers, hauling lirt to the low place in West Second lireet near the flume, adjoining Ross 1. Falconer's building. Most of the teamsters found work ater that day or on Saturday, either with Mr. Oberg or on the E. M. & M. ob elsewhere, and at the old rate of ay. A few new teamsters with wag ns were hired shortly on the Kelt er job, and a placard with the word scab" was tacked on one of the wag na, where it was left unconcernedly y the driver, Sam Banister, who con luded to put in a few days at team ig. Last fall there was a small strike f stonemasons on a new building, two nion men insisting on a shorter work ay, and being promptly supplanted 7 others. ill Sloan's Liniment Relieve Pain?
