That ranchers in Eastern Oregon vare selling their grain much more liberally ' this sea son than was the case last year, was the statement this aftenoon of J. F. O'Bryant, 'warehouseman and local buyer for M. H. Houser of Portland, who in the last five days has con tracted for nearly 100,000 bushels of wheat from farms lying between Ba ker and North Powder. Prices on iBluestcm, Club and Forty-fold have varied from 9o cents to ?1 a bushel, the latter quotation being most gen eral today. Other deals made for Portland firms will bring the total up to 150, 000 bushels, the same general prices prevailing. While a number of grain farmers made money last year by holding just long enough, a larger number, Mr. O'Bryant says, lost heavily by holding too long. This explanation, he says, accounts for the willingness to con tract now. Grain contracts at this time last year, through this part of tiaster.i Oregon, were practically un known. The wheat now spoken for is to be delivered immediately on harvest and will be shipped to eastern ports for European delivery. Black Bear Exonerated. That black bear are not responsible for the deabh of the cattle lost last month in Fox valley by stockman, is the opinion of 'Stanley C. Kewett, of the office of the biological survey. He says the cattle undoubtedly died from disease or on account of eating pois onous weeds. . Dealer in Extracts Arrested. ' Deputy Sheriff Giles Quimby has arrested a merchant in Oakville for selling lemon extract containing such a percentage of alcohol that it was being bought for liquor. tf RY-PTOlf XV GLASSES XV made by us cost no more than Kryptoks made by other opticians, but the Kryptoks supplied by us are better,, being finished on specially made machines and in the finest, most com pletely equipped retail optical factory in East ern Oregon.
