ing in close contact with the whole
salers with whom the retail merchant
deals. In many lines, the largest and
most complete stocks on the Pacific
coast will be found in Portland, Ore
gon. It is the desire of the jobbers and
manufacturers' official organization,
the Portland Chamber of Commerce,
to make this Fourth Annual Buyers'
Week eclipse all others. Your visit
will be both pleasurable and profit
able. Ask any previous attendant regard
ing the value of Buyers' Week from a
business and social standpoint.

Slow to Call Harvest Hands
Topeka, Kans., July 29. Tho state
employment bureau announced today
that it won't call an urmy of eastern
laborers to the Kansas harvest fields
next summer until it has a job for
every man called.
The bureau will make a canvas of
farmers in the spring, asking each
how many men he must have.
Under the present system harvest
ers are sent to the farmers or calls
are made for them.. The result has
been that generally there is an esti
I mate given out far over the number
of men actually needed. Men who
j come from eastern places sometimes
l do not get sufficient work to pay
