W, F. Koontz, a locomotive engi
neer who lived in La Grande a good
many years ago, is here from his
'home in Marshalltown, Iowa, on a vis
it of a couple of weeks. In 1897 he
left I.a Grande for the east on a
leave of absence, and this proved to bo
his farewell to the engine cab as he
never returned to railroad work from
that day to this. He ran a big farm
a couple of years but finally disposed
of 'his farminir interest and lately has
just been traveling around. This is
his first return trip in nearly 20 yeaTS
