Peggy Hyland, the celebrated British
stage and screen favorite, makes her
American screen debut under the
nuspices of the Famous Players on
the Puramount Program in an adap
tation of Henry. Arthur Jones' cele
brated play "Saints and Sinners."
Appearances are deceiving' in this
instance. Of course Blanche Sweet
hasn't just stepped out of the harem
of a screen sultan, though she is wear
ing quaint pantalettes of creamy sha
dow lace over satin. She probably
got the inspiration from her grand
mother. At any rate the camera-man
caught he: off-stage in a moment
when she was indulging her prefer
ence for pretty clothes. The I.asky
Puramount star appears emerging
from a cloud of white tulle. Her tiny
cap sleeves are caught over the should
ers with stiands of pearls.
Of all the beautiful girls in mo
tion pictures Myrtle Stedman has been
selected by Pallas Pictures to por
tray the title role in "The American
Beauty", now being pi'Kluced for the
Paramount Program. That Pallas Pic
tures have chosen wisely is evidenced
by one glance at the above picture,
which in itself, however, does not do
Miss Stedman full justice in that it
only portrays her beauty. The talent
of this popular screen star can oniy
be appreciated by the many thous
ands who have seen her in such pro
ductions ns "The Wild Olive," "Peer
Gynt," "The Reform Candidate," and
other photoplays of equal prominence.
In "The American Hcauty" our pietty
blonde' heroine is given the pro:. test
opportunity of her career as an act
ress. In this film she portrays the
pares of mother and daughter in the
same scene by means of what is con
ceded to be the most remarkania
"double exposure" work ever present
ed on the screen. In one scene she
actually embraces and kisses herself.

der to recuperate for the following
season. Although motion picture act

ideal existence. Furthermore one
only has to live in Southern Califor
nia to be a thorough convert to its
charms."
