Hill's Department Store Scene from "NOTORIOUS GALLAGHER" or "HIS GREAT TRIUMPH." SHERRY'S Sherry's Has Feature. 'Notorious Gallagher" is the pic turesque title of an equally pictur esque nve-part Metro wonderplay, which will be seen Ihore at the Sherry theatre tomorrow only with Mar truerite Snow, the beautiful and versa tile dramatic artiste, and William Nigh, one of the foremost actor-directors in the country in the stellar roles. This sensational feature was produced under ttho direction fo Mr. Nigh for Metro by the Columbia Pic tures Corporation. MisB Snow and Mr. Nigh have as trong supporting cast. Mir. Cowles, who is seen in a strong character part, is one of the leading comedy and character actors in the silent drama. He made a decided im pression in "Emmy of Stork's Nest" in the comedy lead, and has been seen in many otiher Metro wonderplays. Mr. Cowles began his professional career soon after ho was graduated from Yale where he directed the 'varsity show for two seasons. Victor Do I.inskv was first seen on the Metro program in "The Kiss of IlntA " in which Ph..1 nmw.nHn i- starred. Pickle Prospects Poor Chicago, July 14. If Peter Piper gets over in the cucumber patch and picks a peck of pickles while picking pickled peppers these duys he'll have to pay a fancy price for them. The National Pickle Packer's asso ciation met here today and announced to the world at large and lovesick swains and lassies in particular, that there is a dearth of pickles hi the land. As a result, the packers are a trifle soured on the universe. They advocate the conversation of every single wart. Their cry is "Save the Dill; and let the vinger drip where it may." The pickle men' are here to figure out a way to save the day and provide for the shortage of stock. Bad pickle weather for the last two years is blamed for the short crops. Every gardener who values the esteem of these pickle men will grow great quantities of cucumbers from now on. The situation is being watched with exceeding great interest by co-eds at tho university of Chicago, where the consumption of pickles and ice cream is suid to exceed that of all other col leges. For the sake of the Great American Picnic, for the peace of mind of the Great American Co-ET and for the assured promulgation of that hyphenated institution, the Great Gentian-American Dutch Lunch, let nothing hold up pickle growing. 'Acquitted" at Arcade Sunday Only. I "Acuuitted." un admirable adapta tion of a rthurt story by Mury Roberts Kinehart will bo presented to tho pa trons of the Arcade Sunday on the aeirular Triunirle uroirram. It pre sents winrea i.ucus in n roie scmom protruyed on the screen, yet one which 1b bound to enlist sympathetic interest, that of a liindhearted every, day man of family, whoso life has lieen one of unselfish devotion, who linds himself at the breaking point of human endurance through no fault of his own and attempts a last supreme effort for those he loves. It is not a heroic career in a tJhcntrical sense. hut It is the more effective because readily recognized by those who know anything about our common struggle for existence. It is truly of the life we arc living. Modern Adam May Kind Six Kvra. New York, July 15. Six modern Kves of unknown identity are de termined to accompany the modern Adam, Joe Knowles, when he leaves his palatial apartment here today to plunge, nude, into tho woods of the Adirondack hills on another of his famous back to nature jumbourecs. Knowles lives this way a month a year. When lie goesnu the only thing wr.:pt about him is Iris expression. When -he comes out he is well fed on fruits, nuts and herbs and clad in a deerskin suit. Knowles didnt want the women with him so he chose one of them, Mrs. Emily Davis, v.1hose husband was killed in the fighting in Northern Franco recently and who is an experienced wootlswoinan,-to take charge of the six Eves after he has chosen a camu for tlhem and left pre liminary instructions in the art of finding edible roots and how to make snares, traps and fish nets of grasses and fibre. This corsetless, unhuir pinned and non-mirrored sextette of Eves will live for a month in the se cret camp in the Adirondacks, then Knowles will go back to get tihem. To Double Size of San Francisco. San Francisco, July 15. A plan to more than double the area of San Francisco is to 'be considered by a municipal committee here today and reported on not later than August 1. It, is an annexation project similar to the .borough system in New York City. From San Francisco southward along what is known as the peninsula extends an almost uninterrupted line of small municipalities including Redwood City, San Mateo, Burlin gnme, Daly City, Menlo Park, South Sua Francisco and Snn Bruno. Thfe plan,-is to bring them into the city by incorporating San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Representative com mittees have been apointed to draft a bill for presentation to the legislnure, authorizing the incorporation. This committee includes officials of the cities and towns involved. Better water and transportation are among the inducements offered. ,,, , , . ...I.- .,( ..i.l ii.itatocs. free from we nave a uimiru nui i-,. ... , - im -1 .1 !.... ....I. uilltlll v sprouts, vwuie ",,' r Transit Rates Road Made By Portland, July 12.
