Baker, 29 cents; La Grande, 28 cents; Pendleton, 22J cents; Hep ner, 22 cents; Condon, 21 cents, and Arlington. 10 cents, while the rates from San Francisco to Pendleton, La- Grande and Baker are 351 cents per ' 100 pounds. From Salt Lake City to all point from Weatherby to Uma tilla they are the same, and to The Dalles and other points there is a blanket rate of 40 cents, and to Port land the rate is 35 cents. , j "Because of excessive rates Port ; land dealers are unable to handle 'salt for Eastern Oregon consumers, and practically all of it comes from San Francisco," said Corey. "The said commission has further many previous attempts at organiza tion and co-operation in marketing. The expense of the general organiza tion covering the entire northwest is limited to one-sixth of one cent per box and this is to be paid by the sell ing agencies. The expense of the lo cal orgainzalion for inspection and packing supervision, advertising, etc will not bo more titan one cent pe box. They were on their way to Wyoming where they intend to take up government land. Although coming directly from Spo kane where a land drawing is soon to take place they said thev didn't think that would givo mam a hundred to ono chance, so they are pulling out lor a locality where they know they will be able to get claims.
