Time passes and her love for Egan, one of the sons, grows as his does for her. But Nora's brother, Pat, a disreputable chauffeur, worms his way into the Winters' household, and upsets the lovers' plans. Recog nizing Ms sister, he tries to persuade her to assist him in robbing the house. This discussion takes place in Nora's room and before Pat's departure he relieves her of valuable gifts from the Winters, dropping, however, Mrs. Winters' mesh-bag in his ihaste, and thus throwing suspicion on Nora. Nora dons here old clothes and leaves the house. She is observed by Egan, I who follows her to Pat's headquar Iters in the slums.' Disgusted at the j turn of events, Egan, returns home. ' Love still burns in his heart and re i turns to find Nora in a group of in i suiting drunkards. Without delay ' he plunges into the crowd and a fight I ensues. We absolutely guarantee this saving by using DISTILATE with the Liest Gasifio.r en your car. This device simply takes the moisture from the radiator carrying it over the manifold through tight-fitting coppered stove lined with asbestos when it is .superheated ; then to the carburetor where it makes a complete combustion using approximately 98 pe." cent of your distilute. The following reasons will tell you why you should use the Leist Gasifier: 1. Distilate costs about one-half as much and gives more power and miles per gallon. 2. Distilate when used with the Leist Gasifier will not carbonize' your motor. 3. Does not interfere with, the use of gasoline, in fact, will save 25 per cent. Moisture is supplied to the cylinders which prevents any carbon deposits either from fuel or oil and positively keeps clean the cylinder walls, pistons, spark plugs, valves and valve stems. Official Test made with a Ford car equipped with I.eist Gasifier showed the following mileage Gasoline 21 miles, Distilate 35.2 miles. 1 Cfcn be installed by any motorist or garage. by State Hiefhrwav Engineer Lewis and Attorney General Brown working in conjunction. Engineer Lewis will make a searching investigation into the mat terial facts necessary on which the attorney general will be asked to base an opinion. , Recommended by Lewis. This move was taken on recom mendation of Engineer Lewis, before undertaking the laying of a stretch of a mile and a half of experimental pavement at Independence, using three types of pavement, two of which might conflict with the (War ren patents and render the state lia ble to pay royalty or infringement proceedings unless it was determined beforehand that the patents will not hold good. the boards decision to undertake the investigation was based on reports of the Seattle case, in which Warren Broflhera enjoined that city, and on reports of other cases in which it is said bitulithic pavement has been laid without paying royalty to the War ren company. Warren Kot First. The allegations in the. Seattle an swer to Warren Brothers' complaint were in substance that Frederick Warren, who was granted the basic patent in May, 1903, was not the first inventor, that the same mixture had been used more than two years pre vious to the granting of the patent, that tfnie mixture had been previously patented by other parties and that it had been described in detail in a large list of publications, which are ap pended to the Seattle answer. The document also names many cities in which tine pavement is said to have been used previously. Attorney General Brown declared it to be the biggest subject that had ever been passed up to him for an opinion. Question Vital Now. Stae Engineer Lewis said it was of vital importance to the road building plans of the state to have the matter settled as soon as possible, especially in view of tfne fact that the govern ment now proposes to apportion $150,000,000 among the various states for road work of which Oregon will get $1,221,750. The experimental pavement which he proposes to lay at Independence win te a mile and a half long with a nail mile eadrt of bitulithic, aphaltic concrete, and of bitulithic with a half inch top of asphaltic concrete.
