Autos for War Vessels
Washington, July 3. Armored au
tomobiles cradled on the decks of war
ships, in sea-going rafts, for use of
detachments of the United States Ma
rine Corps in shore operations, may
soon be added to the regular equip
ment of naval vessels.
Experiments at the Boston navy
yard a few days ago demonstrated
that these indispensable cars can be
stowed aboard by the means of elec
tric cranes on war vessels, in a very
they occupy is very little.
United States Marines found great
need for armored cars in their re
cent operations in Mexico, Hayti, and
Santo Domingo, but the cars they
used had to be shipped to them by
regular naval transports.

Lake park is being brought to a-close
this afternoon. Banner crowds, good

Novel Scenes Ahout in "The Green
Swamp."
There are several novel scenes in
troduced in "The Green Swamp," the
new Ince-Triangle play, which will be
shown at the Arcade theatre tonight
and tomorrow. There is a grand
masked ball, which shows society peo
ple amusing themselves in an uncon
ventional way. Instead of the con
ventional dress suits and stunning
Bowns. hundreds of men and women
one step and fox trot in costumes of
all nations and all times and classes.
An element of comedy enters when
Margery (Bessie Barriscale) discov
ers her husband. Dr. Allison" (Bruce
McRae), in spite of his disguise in an
Oriental costume of robes and baggy
ferousers and rushes up to him, pour
ing out her reproaches for his perfidy

quer the deadly enemy, lockjaw. Out
side the door the young wife of the

band's life lies in the balance and that

and cause disaster to the man who is
dearest to her or will she put tempta
tion under her feet? For a moment
that is full of human interest and in
tense suspense this scene can't be
surpassed.
IRON HIGHER IN GERMANY.

Stockholm, July 5. -According to
news from Rhenish Westphalia, iron
prices are still high and are rising.
The Hoop Iron Syndicate has raised
its charges from 200 to 225 marks per
ton for metal for home consumption.
Iron plates, from 1 to 2 millimeters in
thickness, re much in demand as a
substitute for other fine metal plates,
300 marks per ton being freely paid,
a price never hitherto contemplated.
Bar iron of ordinary quality for home
consumption has now risen to l'.l:"
marks. The .iteration of the decree
prohibiting sales for export has been
extended by four weeks, and the Bar
Iron Syndicate h;is decided to suspend
sales for home consumption.
