On the Cunar der Alaunia, which arrived here from London for the second time since the outbreak of the war, came a veritable dog of war, with a short pedigree and a long record as ship's mnscot. She was aboard when the Goliath was tor pedoed, but liked tho smell of salt water, so she foresook the land and swam off to a mine sweeper. More of a hoodoo than a mascot, Nelly's new home once moro was hoisted in to the air by a torpedo. Then tho crew of tho supordrcadnought Queen Elizabeth adopted her. When a number of the crew were sent back on leave aboard the Alaunia they took Nelly with them, but the board of agriculture, in spite of her war record, would not allow the tor pedo-tossed dog to land. .Nelly then bocame a dog without a country and traveled to India and Persia on tha Alaunia.
