PASSED FORGED CHECK.
Young Man of 18 Is in Trouble ut
Baker.
Baker, June 5. Ed Johnson, an 18-yoar-old
boy, was arrested yesterday
morning by Chief of Police Jackson
charged with attempting to jtusa a
woilhless check on the Bowen
DeNefTe clothing store. The check
was for $18 and was drawn on the
Citizens' National bank of this city
in favor of John Miller and signed
Frank Nelson.
Johnson made some purchases at
the store, tendering the check in pay
ment, saying he had been working for
Nelson on the letter's ranch near this
city. Suspicions were aroused that
the check was u forgery and Johnson,
alias Miller, was held at the store
while inquiry was made at the bank
verifying the suspicion, as there was
no account there in the name of Frank
Nelson. Chief of Police Jackson wa-t
summoned, but Johnson still stuck tc
his story. I
"All right," said the chief, "get in
my car and take me to .Nojson and
wfl will find out." Johnson then ad
mitted "Nelson" was a myth and his
arrest followed.

S tries at San Francisco and San

Western crude. Zerolene is the
best oil for your motor because
scientifically refined from selected California crude
asphalt-base. Government experts tell us that oils
correctly refined from asphalt-base crude "distill
without decomposition" Ldo not break up and lose
their lubricating value under cylinder heat and are
"much better adapted to motor cylinders, as far
as their carbon-forming proclivities are con
cerned, than are paraffine-base Pennsylvania oils."
