A., which a few years ago was a vital organization in " athletics, music, so cial affairs and other fileds, as happen to be in La Grande now wore enter-, tainad last evening by Mr. and Mrs. George Huntington Currey at their home on Main avenue. In addition to the old time club members, wives of those married now, and lady fricndti of those so fortunate, were guests for the occasion last evening. Games were played, interspersed with music, followed by refreshments later in the evening. This is the first meeting of the charter members in more than five years. . . , . The Christian Endeavor society of the Piesbyterian church gave a ban quet last evening in the Y. M. C. A. building for the new members who have been enlisted during a recent campaign. The social committee served a chicken dinner to about fifty. Afterward a short program of music and toasts, was given. The society now numbers over fifty active and as sociate members. Among the things planned for the summer by the young folks is a tennis court and other forms of recreation. Ernest A. Love is the president and Miss Ora Anderson the chairman of the social committee of the society. ' Marie Smith entertained the Owais sa club Wednesday evening at her home on Washington avenue. A very enjoyable time was experienced as usual and this was augmented by an exceptionally fine luncheon. The club members will meet next week with Goldio Campbell. , Club life this week centered chiefly on two presentations of "The Melting Fot" by a cast of actors from the Neighborhood club. The second, given Thursday evening, went just as smoothly and was as great a success as the first one given Tuesday after noon. The Library club rooms were crowded with men and women anxious to see th? much-touted presentation, and all the praise heretofore be stowed upon the actors, has not been overdone. The men found that women can carry out a play without the help of man, very nicely. Great praise is due Mrs. Norman Frees for the way the parts wore handled and for the clearness of interpretation. Her skilled coaching .was always manifest, and, aided by rare ability on the part of the cast, she was able to round out a performance that many think has never been equalled in local talent pro ductions here. It is otten true- mat homo talent productions have weak links in them some where in this particular case every lino was tarried in a remarkably clever manner. It was a great tribute to coach, and to performers.
