A. volleyball stars Saturday night whan the Baker itcs motored over some 15 strong to participate in a return match. The game was begun with considerable class the homers winnings 21-14 but after that the Bakerites failed to stem the tide. The second game went 21-1, barely nosing out a kalsomjne. The third and last game went 21-12 mak ing at total of (ill to 27 for the three. After the game the visitors and home folks adjourned to thie banquet room of the Y. M. C. A. where a frroup of ladies had prepared a de icious repast and for an hour or so the representatives of the two insti tutions enjoyed u visit amid informal settings. The two matches have been they are a few days old, and there need be no apparent worry about eat ing the eggs. ; Professor Charles H. La Wall, chemist of the Stato Dairy and Food Commission, has looked over some rtf the eggs that .wore labeled as hav ing been hid in 1913 and 1914, and he says 'he found them to be first class in every respect . The eggs were solid, looked vary much like the fresh product, and when candled they were found not to have shrunk. Further Investigation led to the dis covery of a machine which (had licen used in the process of "sterilizing" tho eggs. All that frotessor La. Wall could learn of the process was that the eggs were placed in the machine and dropped first into hot and then ccld oil. The pores closed, llhio shells were strengthened and the eggs ster ilized. . "That's all I know about the meth ods of sterilization," said Professor La Wall. "Tho eggs were turned over to me for examination, and I found them in good condition. They were labeled as having been laid two and thre-3 years back, and I learned that they have been served in some of tftle ho tels. The new roadway has made the gorge of the Columbia passable for automobiles and other vehicles for the first time in history. Portland will crown its Rose Festi val queen the evening of June 0, pre ceding the formal opening of tho Kose Festival on tho morning of Juno 7. Portland's central feature this year will bo the great Rose Fountain and festival center, covering more than 80,000 square feet, the greatest floral display of the kind ever built.
