spectacular tght in the Nebraska
primary today is that for tta Demo
cratic nomination for governor. May
or Charles W Bryan of Lincoln,
'brother of William J. Bryan, is tho
dry candidate; while the wets have
concentrated their vote on Keith
Neville of North Platte, although W.
F. Stoecker, of Omaha, also is in the
race. Former Secretary Bryan has
been in the thick of the fight to rid
the Democratic party in Nebiaska of
what he designates its "brewery con
trol." "I did not want this question to
come up at this time when national is
sues are to engage our attention," said
Mr. Bryan in his campaign. "I pre
ferred that it wait a year. But if a
child is bom at my house 1 take care
of it. This question is here, and I in
tend to take care of it." The wets,
having control of the Democratic state
committee, he said, declared it was
best to let the issue rest, and then
they quietly got busy and sought to
nominate men so as tosapture the
; nominations in both parties for gov
ernor and the legislature. Since they
forced the issue, he said, Ihte is content
. to fight it out. Wets and diys are
i battling for control in the Republican
and Democratic parties. The selection
of candidates friendly or opposed to
the liquor interests overshadows all
else. When ' tho state prohibition
amendment comes up this fall, th
governor and legislators will decide
its fate. Little interest has 'been dis
played in the presidential contest.

ence ballot are the names of Henry
Ford, Henry D. Eastbrook, Albert B.
Cummins and Robert G. Ross. Ne
barska has two favorite sons as can
didates for the vice-presidential nom
inations, former United States Sena

Governor John H. Morehcad, Demo
crat. Both "are expected to receive
their party's endorsement in Nebras
ka. On the Republican ticket there
are five" candidates for the guberna
torial nomination: three drys, Judge
A. L. Sutton of Omaha, William
Madgett of j Hastings and Samuel R.
McKelvie of Lincoln and two wets:
Walter George of Omaha and C. J.
Miles of Hastings. For the nomina
tion for Unibed States senator, Sena
