Lorn Quong was released today on
surety bonds. .
A new color has been lent the situa
tion here and on the coast by the
shooting this morning in San Fran
cisco, but La Grande Chinese are in
clined to think it will not revive the
tong situation. ' y
It is understood there is a possibil
ity that Lent Quong, accused of as
saulting Eng Chong some time ago
during the tong war in this city may
be tried this term of court. A soon
na the attorneys and the court can
agree on a date, tne matter will be
settled. It is understood there are
enough white witnesses to make a
strong case against the defendant, and
that the case will be pushed in spite
of the settlement of tong differences,
is now very clearly indicated. Con
cerning the peace conference in Port
land, a Portland Telegram item re
views the whole situation as fol
lows: Not until Woifg Do King, for 30
years president of Bing Kung tong
in San Francisco, threatened to take
his grip and return o California,
thus serving the merger of the Bow
Leongs and the Bing Kungs in Port
land, did the Portland Bow Leong
Bing Kung members consent to
peace terms with the Hop Sing tong
at 5 o'cldck last night For an hour
there was every prospect of a re
newal of hostilities and resorting to
arms, despite the , signed armistice.
But for Wong Do King, who is now
under $10,000 bail pending deporta
tion, the war would have continude.
Here are the peace terms:
Each tong has had one man killed
and one man wounded; no Chinese
will appear to prosecute the Chinese
who have been arrested; no indem
nity will be paid by either side.'
Won't Am in Trials,
Lou Quong, who shot Jeung Wah,
a Hop Sing; and Louie Wing, wljo
killed Yin Luck, a Hop Sing, in
front-of House's restaurant, are both
under arrest. They are Bing Kung
gunmen and were caught red-handed
by the police and their crimes were
witnessed bv white men. The-peace
agreement is that (the )Hop iSingsJ
will abandon their plan to nave a
special prosecutor, and if there is a
conviction it must be secured by the
district attorney with his white wit
nesses. Jeung Wah may or may not
be permitted to identify Lou Quong.
The state's case, however, must rest
on white testimony, aside from iden
tification of the dead Yin Luck.
Hop Sings must not prosecute Seid
Way Bong, a Bing Kung, who was
with Lou Quong at the shooting of
Jeung Wah, nor must they involve
Jeung Bong, the Bing Kung "point
er." This agreement Enables Seid
Way Bong to come out of hiding.
.'. Bing Kungs must not aid in the
apprehension of Lee Kim, Hop Sing,
named in jthe dying statement of
Wong Ching, a Bing Kung, as one of
the three gunmen who shot him at
Fifth and Flanders streets. There
fore Lee Kim, now in California, and
his companions, can return to Port
land in perfect safety, and no Bing
Kung will notify the police.
At La Grande, Eng Chon, a Bing
Kung, was wounded by a Hop Sing
gunman, and Lem Quong, a Hop
Sincr cook, was arrested and accused
by the Bings. The Bing Kung tbng
must pay the hospital bills of their
tong brother and must fail to idnt.

To Settle Seattle Killing.
At Seattle, A. Y. Park, a Korean,
will killed, and Yee Bow, secretary
of the Hop Sings, is under arrest
and indictment, although (innocent,
his accusers being Bing Kung mem
bers. What happened in Seattle was
this: At the hour the tong war was
staged by the Bing Gungs, one of
their gunmen was waiting to shoot
Wong Woon, a prominent Hop Sing,
The Korean, Park, dressed like Wong
Woon, emerged from the Ibuilding
where the Hop Sings dwell a few
minutes 'before Wong Woon and the
Bing Kung highbinder shot Park and
ran across the street. Then the
(ping Kungs notified the police that
the Hops did the shooting and named
the secretary of the lodge, Yee Bow,
The palace agreement sgnjd last
night insists that the Bing Kungs in
Seattle repudiate their identification
of Yee Bow and Bings will make a
plausible explanation to the district
attorney of Kong county.
AH Scores Settled.
This accounts for all of the kill
ings and shootings save that the Seen
Quon Yee, the 'Mrish" Chinaman
(Hoi Yen Goon Shaw), who was shot
br Lou Quon, with Jeung Wah. As
Seen Quon Yee was no tongman, this
case was not settled by the Ping Wo
Woi, as indemnity will be paid direct
to the (HoiYen Good IShaw. The
murder of Lee Fnut, at Roseburg,
appears to have been a crime for
robbery as neither the Bing Kong
delegates nor the Hop Sing delegates
claimed aim at the peace conference
It was when the. Seattle chapter was
being negotiated that hostilities were
almost renewed yesterday, v Chin
Hing, president of , the Portland
branch of the Bing Kung tong, Seid
You Kooey and Chin Leong Look,
also Bings, objected. They declared
that it was not fair to ' the Bing
Kungs that two of their gunmen,
Lou Quong and Louie Wing, should
be prosecuted by the whites while
the Hop Sing gunmen should not be
identified by the Bing Kungs. The
'trio insisted that Yee Bow, in .Seat-
tie, be convicted. In the wrangle
which foljowed, this trio .of Bing
Kungs, started to leave the hall on
the third floor at 257 1-2 Davis street.
Wong Do King Saves Day.
Up rose Wong Do King and an
nounced that he, as the big headman
from headquarters, was; satisfied
with the peace terms; that he was
opposed to seeing an innocent man
convicted of murder. Further, he
explained, that in San Francisco the
Hop Sines are very powerful, more
so than the Bing Gungs in point of
numbers, and that they are on a
friendly footing at present and he
wants them to remain friendly. He
called attention to the fact that he
has more power than any other Bing
Kung and his ulimatum wsb that if
the Bow Leongs who belong to the
Bing Kung branch in Portland were
not satisfied when he, himself, was'
satisfied, that he would take his grip
and return to San Francisco. This
meant that he would withdraw the
Bing Kung charter from Portland
and leave the Bow Leongs to their
own devices to fight their own war
with the Hop Sings. If the war was
not settled now on the teems whlcn
he, as head of the Bing Kungs, ap
proved, then the Bow Leong mem
bers of the Bing Kung could go on
warring and that eventually they
would get the worst of it from the
Hop Sings; just as they used to do
before the Bing Kungs amalgamated
with the Bow Leongs. This talk
brought peace and all the Chinese
agree that but for the square deal

ings which would spread up and
down the coast. " V '
