NEARLY EVERYBODY NEEDS A TONIC IN THE SPRING; BECAUSE DURING THE PREVIOUS WINTER THEY HAVE EATEN TOO MUCH AND CLOGGED THE UVER AND KIDNEYS. IT IS WISE JUST ON "GENERAL PRINCIPLES" TO TAKE A CLEANSING TONIC EVERY SPRING AND BRING BACK YOUR BUOYANCY AND INCREASE YOUR VITALITY. ' Prescription Specialists While the lesser lights of humanity have their goings and comings scrup ulously chronicled, it is not amiss that, the greater luminaries of outer space should sometimes be given a measure of publicity. On these clear moonless nights the sky presents a very attractive oppor tunity for those who wish to make astronomical observations with the naked eye, or assisted by a bird or opera glass. Half way down the western sky after sunset, two very beautiful planets, Jupiter and Venus, appear. A short time ago Jupiter, was the up per one, now it is the lower, having passed the brilliant queenly star which it seemed to be pursuing. A little south of the zenith appears the con stellation of Orion, easily identified by its belt of three stars, from which a starry sword hangs down, with the brilliant Betelgeuse above it, and 'Rigel below. A little north and east, in a widely spread W, is to be seen I Gassiopeia's chair. Almost precisely in the zenith, a little to the west may be described a misty, shimmering lit tle group about the size of a sauce pan which indicates where the Pleu ades hold their court; the Pleuades which have been sung from of old. Some people who have good eyesight may make out six of its seven stars, but a bird or opera glass will bring out the seven very beautifully. In that misty patch, no bigger than a human hand, seemingly, there are three thousand stars, and though they seem as closely packed as snow in a snow-bank, there is ytt room between and two of them for our own sun and all its planets to pass through un- LA GRANDE CONDUCTOR MEMBER - OF FOUR-GENERATION FAMILY v" I t if II - -rf ! f?UfiV Jill i i 'J lifillliilS From the left C. Not all the :tews of the day transpires on the earth. Very inter esting items are to be gleaned from the skies, too, these winter nights. noticed. Over in the southeast, on a line with Orion's belt, Sirius may be seen, a blue-white diamond of the night. It is one of our comparatively near neighbors, being only 47,000,000,000, 000 miles from us, its light coming to us in a little over eight years. But as it is approaching our 'system at the rate of 866,000 miles a day, it may be expected to grow much brighter in the course of a few centuries. Then in the east, where the moon lately toso, red Mars may be seen. In the north, to be found by using the two stars which form the front of the big dipper as "pointers", is Polaris, which keeps constant guard above the north pole of the earth a sentry duty of which it will be re lieved in 12,000 years, when the earth's pole will be pointing toward Vega. These are only a few -of the heaven- ly objects which may be Sv.en these nights objects known to many by name but not by personal acquaint ance with their appearance and posi tion in the skies. It is amazing how little attention these nightly wonders command. Only the other day, Venus was mistaken by the people of an eastern munition manufacturing town for an airship approaching. In "oth er times, before the stars were known for what they are, their movements caused all sorts of distress amongst the people. But nowadays, when' al most any school child may find facili ties for mapping the heavens, am when every adult may find his way about the greater constellations, there is much of interest and information which goes heedlessly to waste. THE UCGIHTin There are a lot of things about the coffee business that the public doesn't know. There are a lot of coffees of the "ten-karat" variety masquerading ashe "eighteen -karat" kifid. " '' There can be no better coffee than . Myall Clwfo Super-Quality Coffee It sells regularly at 40c. No "first quality" coffee should sell for more. ; i ' . :, . ... -', . There might be times when a higher price would be justified but not now. . : . "Green coffee" prices fluctuate just vas does sugar or flour and any other staples. Due to a decreased demand in Europe, coffee has been "down" for a whole, year past. During part of this time the "best" coffee could be retailed, with a reasonable profit, at 35c in the home market and 40c in distant, markets. During that time we sold ROYAL CLUB aTthe'7e"diiced pric advanced the regular price of ROYAL CLUB is now 40c, and it's worth it. . ; ,; .- , .' ; , The coffee roaster, who maintained a price of 40c to 45c, during this "low market" period, charged you too much he robbed the public of thousands of dollars. They were entitled to share in this saving just as they do on sugar and flour and other staples. The Coffee Roaster who charges you an unreasonable price fifty one weeksout of the year, for coffee no ; better than ROYAL CLUB, and then reduces his price for one week to what it should have been all the year does not deserve your patronage. We will challenge all competition.. ROYAL CLUB has no equal in quality or. price. We will not be undersold no, .not for a single day. ... , :. s ' ' We Vill allow no "outside" coffee roaster to. unload his surplus stock on the unsuspecting public at what he claims to be a marvel ous reduction. For two weeks you may buy ROYAL CLUB at reduced prices, to meet all competition. Buy it in - any quantity at these prices. You know it is the best that money can buy. You know it is fresh for it's roasted daily in Portland and. deliv ered to your grocer in small quanti-. ties just as he needs it. You can be certain that it has not lost its strength in warehouses or in transit. ny pake LAM CO The "Royal Club" House PORTLAND, OREGON (Second Ad
