Today's Oddest Story.
Dallas; Tex. Feb. 29. Mayor Henry
D. Lindsley celebrated his tonth birth
day today. Ho would be 44 years
old had he been born one day earlier.
As it is, ho has a birthday only onco
every four years, and 1!)00 being a
centennial year he had none from
1896 to 1904. It was chiefly through
Mayor Lindsley's influence that Dal
las made the $100,000 offer for the
Democratic national convention.

"Yes, yes, yes. I have no secrets

will accept my teachings. For, lo,
these many years I have set on my
perch on Mount Emily in .the evening
with my left foot on my perch and imy
middle toe of my right foot in my

table, well filled with the bounties of
your beautiful Willamette valley, and
when they were well filled with old
wine, by my owl wireless I hear and
know much I have not told you. You
know in that bautiful suite of offices
in the Journal Building where there
is much that is not intended for my
ear, I have a special invisible wire."
"Well, Mr. Owl, dav is breaking and
I must fly back to Crown Point and
sharpen my claws. They seem a lit

"Well, good bye, and the very best
will of my people go with you to the
metropolis. The next time you come,
call on me and I will be glad to tell
you how my people can and will make

Now, as the sun is coming over Eagle
Cap, I must fly away to my roost in
the garret of Ed. Hughes' barn."
"No doubt, you live fat on Ed's
chickens."
"Oh. no. no. no. Ed and Ruth are
of my people. They attend to their
own business. I would not harm my
neople.
"Then, pray, how do you live?"
"I live well. I catch moles, goph
ers and ground squirrels in Ed's gard
en and sometimes when I feel that l
should have a change I catch an ira
ported China Pheasant or quail. There
are a few left which the game hogs
from the .towns have not got yet.
Good-bye. When you get to the me
tropolis, be sure and go up to the oT-

time he comes up to be sure and tell
my peonle exactly what he wants. I
could -tell them but I don't like to butt
