The case against Leon V. Stiles, ' the former preacher and Chautaugua lecturer, who was in jail Here several days charged with obtaining money under false cretonses. was dismissed in court yesterday, as the Portland Shirt Manufacturing company, for which Stiles claimed he was working when he received money for shirts that were never delivered,, has in formed the district attorney that it will fill the orders. Stiles was ar rested at The Dalles, charging him with passing a bad check. He was released at The Dalles and brougnt to Eugene. . Knights District Convention ' Cottage Grove, Or. Feb. 25. The Knights of Pythias lodge of this city entertained the district convention held here last Wednesday night.. The district consists of Rosoburg, Cot tage Grove and Eugene, and dele' gates from the three nlkces were"1 present. Grand Chancellor Willard Marks of Albany, and Grand Keeper of Records and Seals Walter Gloason of Portland, were present, and made addresses. Most of the evening was taken up with degree work. ENGINEER ILL WHEN - BID FIG URES MADE Hans Pedcrson Wants , to Increase His Tender on Auditorium Work Hans Pederson, the Seattle con tractor who was awarded the- con tract Wednesday by the council for the construction of the superstruc ture of the proposed public auditor ium for $320,262, came before the council at an . informal meeting with a statement that two errors totaling $21,525 had been made by his engineer in making his estimate and requested tnat ne 'oe permitted - to increase his bid by this amount. Should his request be granted, he said, his bill still would be $10,570 lower than that of the Boyajohn Arnold Co., the next highest bidder and $24,600 lower than the bid above that of his nearest competitor.
