The noted Episcopal minister,
Bishop Paddock, will conduct services
in the. M. E. church next Sunday
evening. . All are invited.
Grandma Proebstel fell again a
few days ago the second bad fall this
winter and is in, a serious condi
tion at her home on Prairie creek.

Elide Makin has secured a lease
on the old Murdock stock ranch of
2200 acres on Day Ridge near Wallowa
and will stock the place with cattle
and hogs.
Jack Quirk, a former resident of
Joseph, but for the last five years em
ployed in the railroad business at
Portland, spent a soupl of days here
this week. He spent the winter at his
old home in Erie, Pa.
A. R. Bodmer is expected home to
day from a week's visit in Portland.
Doc Bunch reports that Bod was
-married while in Portland. Anyway
our "Shivaree" band has gone into
training for the occassion.
About 80 of their friends from
Joseph honored Mr. and Mrs. Leldon
Mitchell with a surprise party Fri
day night at their home just east of
town. Games, music and elegant re
freshments were the order of the even
ing. Victor Marsman of Three Lakes and
Cam Scott of the Battes made proof
on their homesteads Saturday before

bit of a dog infected with the disease.
Dr. Mount, who is treating the case,
sent the dog's head to the authori
ties in Portland and they pronounced
it the real article in hydrophobia.
Within the last week Mrs. J. C.
Conley and Mrs. G. M. Gaily of En
terprise and Mrs. Mabel Carruthers of
Peace River Crossing, Alberta, Can
ada, visited their parents here, Post
master and Mrs. W. C. Wilson. It was
the first time the three daughters
were together at the old home since
they were children.
Twentv of Miss Leontine Morelock's
young friends greatly enjoyed a birth
day party given by her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Morelock at their home
on Mill street, in honor of her 11th
birthday. The evening was pleasant
ly spent playing games and eating
everything good to eat. One of Leon
tine's birthday presents is a beautiful
gold watch, presented by her mother.

gard Hall Saturday night, February
26. Everybody wa3 welcome. Good
music and a good time was had.
Alex Gourley has installed a new
billiard table in the old bar room of
the hotel.
Glen Powell, the agent, will move
his family to the A. J. Gourley resi
dence soon.
Mrs. George Hilyard and son are
visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Young.
Walter Thompson and family made
a trip to La Grande last week.
