Feeling that un'ess owners of pool
halls and 'billard parlors look, to their
knitting, the public will legislate them
out of business ere 'long, tihe Nation
al Billard protective League has sent
out circular letters to all patrons of
the Balk-Collander tables sounding a
note of alarm. La Grande pool hall
owners have received them along iwitK

into bad repute, by reason of a limited

of age and undesirable characters to

The use of the word "Pool Room"
has been brought into such bad re
pute - by race horse gambling and
book making and bucket shop estab
lishments that the mere mention of it
creates a feeling of antagonism with
the averago parent. Some room
keepers have changed their signs to
"Pocket Billiards" others wholly dis
regard public opinion and continue to
use this objectionabe term of "Pool".
Roomkeepers must thoroughly un
derstand that they must keep on good
terms with public opinion, if they

simple.' That decision is just a
sample of what popular opinion will

introduced in the state legislatures
of Oklahoma and Kansas, absolutely
prohibiting public billiard rooms in
these states.

over twenty counties of Texas, bill

This shows great faith in the merit
